Personal Bio:
Karen has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, their families and schools. She started her professional career with the H.S.E in residential care, supporting adolescent young people at risk, working with young people and their families in an assessment unit and working in the area of child protection and welfare. Karen has developed her own private practice and works from a developmental perspective. She provides Play Therapy to both children and adolescents with a range of difficulties such as attachment issues, bereavement, anxiety, separation/divorce, self -regulation and behavioural difficulties, ADHD and Autism. Currently, Karen lectures on the MA in Play Therapy programme run by CIT whilst managing a small private practice. She also offers Supervision to Qualified Play Therapists.
Area of Interest:
More recently, Karen has developed her play therapy practice to include the principles and practices of Theraplay and Filial Therapy. Both programmes support parents to build better relationships and become more confident in emotionally supporting their children, either through 1-3 sessions involving observations/consultations or completing the whole programme.
